The Himalaya Archive Japan (HAJ) a Japanese nonprofit organization legalized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is pleased to announce that HAJ will hold the “Himalaya Film Festival TOKYO 2010” this autumn from November 19th to November 21st 2010.
The Himalaya Film Festival aims at raising awareness of the connection between human beings and the mother earth through the Himalayan region, offering the public an excellent and unique opportunity to take a closer look at the region. The Himalaya Film Festival TOKYO 2010 will screen twenty two documentaries that cover topics ranging from intrepid climbing expeditions to history and traditional lifestyle unique to the region, to pressing environmental issues. In conjunction with the festival, an international symposium will be held at the same venue.
We firmly believe that the Himalaya Film Festival Tokyo 2010 will help foster people’s understanding about the Himalayan region, the human-nature relationship and environmental issues under the concept of the film festival project -“Think of the Mother Earth, Think from the Himalayas.”
The outline of the festival is as follows:

* Co-host: Himalaya Archief Nederland (Dutch NGO)
* Support (on a negotiating): The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nepal; The Japan - Nepal Society; Netherlands Embassy in Tokyo; The Japan-Bhutan Friendship Association
* Special support: Alpine Tour Service Co., Ltd.
* Festival period: November 19th to 21st (3days) (The symposium on 20th)
* Venue: National Olympic Memorial Youth Center (Yoyogi, Tokyo)

1) Screening documentary films (22 documentaries) on the Himalayan region.
2) Holding an international symposium entitled “Questioning the contemporary world from the Himalayan world: the contradiction in the global community, the possibility and role of the Himalayan culture.”
