The 21st century has begun, and various global issues lie heavy on us such as global climate change caused by environmental disruption through prioritized economic development, and religious and ethnic conflicts caused by clash of national egos and differences in belief and ethnicity, and economic globalization symbolized by globally-skewed distribution of wealth. These issues are agendas we must think together as a global citizen.

HOME > About HAJ > Why Himalayas?

There is "the place" where these serious issues the modern society faces are condensed. That is “the Himalayas”. It is regarded as "Treasure of the earth" due to its profound diversity in ecological environment, ethnicity and culture. Ancient people called it "the seat of gods". It is registered as the world heritage site now. “The Himalayas” is a very large mountain range extending East-West 2,400 kilo meters, and North-South 300 kilo meters, where entire Japanese land is completely covered. It runs through the following countries and regions, Bhutan, China, Tibet, Nepal, India and Pakistan. If we stare at issues of “the Himalayas” related to “economic development and poverty”, “ethnicity and religion”, “human rights and peace”, and “environmental disruption and global climate change”, we see that the earth is in danger.

The Himalaya Archive Japan (HAJ) feels the needs to tackle with these agendas together with people in the Himalayas, all people who love the Himalayas and Japanese people. HAJ urges all people mentioned above to listen to the messages from the Himalayas.HAJ will convey the messages from the Himalayas through video pictures. In doing so, HAJ will connect people and lead them to practical actions to overcome these agendas. That is the HAJ’s role. And HAJ can’t play this role without support and cooperation from those who share the same vision with HAJ.
