Dr. Ambedkar, an Indian social activist, has not been widely known in the world, but like Mahatma Gandhi, he is actually and truly a great hero in India.  He was an untouchable in the caste but became the first minister of Justice of Independent India who drew up the draft of the constitution.  His deep will condemning the caste system has been surely inherited by his followers and those who sincerely long for freedom around the world.

The climbing legend, Mr. Reinhold Messner is the first climber who reached the summit of Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen.  Since the first ascent in 1953, Mt. In 70s, ordinary women in the Himalayas took a risk to protect forests sustaining their livelihood from commercial logging, embracing trees.  Their nonviolent resistance based on Gandhi's thought and action was called "Chipko Movement."  "Chipko" means "embracing" in Hindi.  Since then, this movement has influenced and inspired many environmental protection and women's liberation movements throughout the world.

In Afghanistan, which is the western edge of the Himalayan region, a great Islamic poet and spiritual master, Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī was born in 13th century.  His poetry and words have been inspiriting not only Muslims but other religious believers and furthermore those who are sincerely searching the meaning of life.  Sadly, recently Islam has been deeply misunderstood because of the terrorism by Islamic State, Taliban and others.  You will surely understand the essence and love of Islam through the master’s rich spiritual world.

Words of

“A people and their religion must be judged by social standards based on social ethics. No other standard would have any meaning if religion is held to be necessary good for the well-being of the people."
